Moms, we all know the struggle: wanting to prepare a delicious and impressive meal, but time and energy are limited. I get it because I too work all day as a teacher and must prepare meals for my family of 5. This homemade chicken cordon bleu recipe is your new weeknight hero.
It’s surprisingly easy to make, uses simple ingredients, and delivers restaurant-quality taste that will have your family raving. Plus, it’s kid-friendly, with the classic combo of chicken, ham, and cheese that’s sure to be a hit with picky eaters—especially when served with sides like GreenGiant® Dino Veggie Tots– Broccoli & Cheese.
Chicken Cordon Bleu is one of my family’s favorite meals. Normally, we buy prepared varieties, but I wanted to try making it myself. After my first few tries, I never realized how easy it was. Yes, there are several steps to putting it together, but ensuring my family’s meals are of highest quality is important to me. The final outcome is so delicious, and the leftovers heat perfectly for the next day’s lunch or dinner. Plus, it is the perfect recipe to pair with your favorite variety of GreenGiant® frozen vegetables or sides.
What are the Main Ingredients for Chicken Cordon Bleu?

- Egg,grated Parmesan, and breadcrumbs for breading
- Salt,pepper,and other seasonings
Making Chicken Cordon Bleu

Can I use Boneless, Skinless Chicken Thighs Instead of Cutlets?
- Yes!Thighs are naturally moister than white meat cutlets,so they can be a good option if you’re worried about the chicken drying out.Be sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly,as thighs take longer to cook through than cutlets.
What Type of Ham and Cheese are Best?
- Use any type of ham you enjoy, such as Black Forest,Polish low-salt ham, honey ham,or smoked ham.For cheese,Swiss is classic, but other melty cheeses like Gruyère or Monterey Jack can work well too.
What Sauces Can I Serve with Chicken Cordon Bleu?
- A classic Dijon mustard sauce is a popular choice. You can also try honey mustard sauce, hollandaise sauce,or a simple creamy pan sauce. I love my homemade honey mustard sauce which I served mine with.
