Good morning everyone welcome back to catherine’s plates where it’s always simply delicious in my kitchen today i’m going to show you an easy version of chicken and dumplings in the crock pot we don’t have to heat up a big pot on our stove top and have it sit all day simmering

Let the crock pot do it and keep your kitchen nice and cool you ready let’s go ahead and get started to make the chicken part of our chicken and dumplings you’re gonna need two pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast three to four cups of chicken broth i’m using some poultry seasoning

Some salt some pepper and then i have a cream of chicken soup and a cream of celery soup now you can change these up if you want to do two cream of chicken soups you can do that or two cream of celery soups you can do that also

I’m using a six quart crock pot and we’re going to add two cans of our cream of soups now this recipe is great because it’s in the crock pot we’re not having to sear any meat brown any meat so just put it all in there and let it do

Its thing and then the dumplings will come later i’m going to show you how that’s going to happen now these are 10 and a half ounce cans and you’re going to need two of them i like the celery flavor so we’ll be adding that but you gotta have that chicken flavor in there

Really prominent chicken flavor now this is the base for my chicken and dumplings i never go away from this flavor here now i change up the dumplings every so often i’m going to take my chicken broth now what i like to do to get all of that

Stuff out of the cans pour the chicken broth into our can probably gonna be doing the whole box just take a spoon just kind of stir it up get all of that flavor out of there we love love love chicken and dumplings i’m bringing this one back to you

And did it years ago in a what’s for dinner and it is lost up in there with all those videos i’ve done i’ve done like over 900 videos what we’re going to do now is season it quarter teaspoon of salt half a teaspoon of black pepper then we’re going to go in

With a full teaspoon of poultry seasoning now poultry seasoning has thyme sage marjoram rosemary nutmeg and black pepper that’s the ingredients yeah this will really give it some flavor take a whisk and just blend this all together now if you like other flavors in there like garlic onion powder you can add that

Whisk it really good get it all combined now we’re going to be using boneless skinless chicken breast for this recipe now these are pretty big and they seem to be about a pound each because there was four pounds to the package and there was four chicken breasts so

I’m going to cut these down just a little bit because they are very plump so i’m just going to probably cut it into threes you can use chicken tenders if you want now we’re going to place the chicken and submerge it into the liquid get it nice and coated

Now what i’m going to do is add that rest of that chicken broth i filled the cans with it but i want four cups in here we’re going to need this liquid when we create the dumplings so make sure you have four cups in there okay just gonna give that a stir

Now we’re going to cook it okay we’re going to place the lid on all right so we’re going to cook the chicken part of our chicken and dumplings for about three three and a half hours on high or you can go about five hours on low

You want to get to the point where that chicken is nice and tender and you can shred it very easily and then at that point we’re going to make the dumplings and then it’s going to take about another hour all right i’ll be back we’re about one hour out from the

Chicken being really nice and tender so i’m going to go ahead and start preparing the biscuits that are going to make the dumplings in the crock pot so we’re going to be using biscuit dough you get it out of your refrigerator it’s just a can it’ll take about an hour for these to

Cook in the crock pot so i’m going to do is sprinkle a little bit of flour on my work surface smooth it out a little bit now i’m going to place my biscuit dough on top now i’m going to cut very thin strips very very thin

Like that now you can make your own biscuit dough if you want to do that and then you can put them into your crock pot we like them like this and very thin because they make really good dumplings now i’ve made chicken and dumplings before

In a big soup pot and it was a copycat version of cracker barrel and i made homemade dumplings so i’ll link it down below if you want to check out that recipe i’m going to do three more of the biscuits and that’s what we’ll do for this recipe

So there’ll be five total biscuits now we have three more and what i can do what you can do is just plop those into the oven and bake them off and we can dust these with a little bit of flour which is totally fine because it’ll aid

As a thickener once we put them back into the crock pot all right there we go all right i’ve got all of these and i’ve got these here dust them a little bit on the top so you don’t stick all right what we’re going to do

Now is pull the chicken out of the crock pot and i’m going to chop it up or you can shred it up however you want to eat your chicken with the dumplings getting tender that’s for sure so i’m gonna place it on a cutting board let’s make sure we got it all out

All right we’re gonna start chopping it up we’ve got all the chicken chopped up what we’re going to do is place it back into the crock pot all right now we’re going to add the pieces of biscuit on top of the sauce now make sure your crock pot is still on

Mine’s going to be on a high setting i’m just going to push these down so they’re coated with the sauce and then we’re going to put another layer of biscuit on top of that push those down now the flour on the biscuit pieces will help thicken up the sauce as it cooks

We’re going to put a lid on it and it should take about one hour to finish tenderizing that chicken and cooking the biscuits till they’re nice and tender fluffy and puffy okay i’ve taken the lid off now it’s sat for a few minutes so i’m gonna break these up oh look at that

Sure made the house smell delicious oh look how thick that is who’s ready for some chicken and dumplings i’m gonna bowl this up and give it a try okay you can see the dumplings how they puffed up and that chicken oh it’s so tender just falls apart it’s those dumplings i’m after

There’s my bite right there a really comforting dish to have all right my bowl holder comfort all right there’s my bite this right here oh that whatever you want to call it that is gold right there that’s delicious it’s creamy it’s got a lot of flavor in it probably because of that

Poultry seasoning we added had a little nutmeg in there which gave it a little warmth to it that is delicious the chicken is very tender full of flavor and those dumplings they’re very soft kind of little pillows of goodness in your chicken and dumplings okay give me a thumbs up on this one

Who’s making it it was very easy to put together using a can of biscuits and a few cans yeah okay make sure you comment down below if you’re new to the channel make sure you hit that subscribe button down below that bell notification that way you’ll always know when shows like this

One here are posted i’ll see you on the next episode
